Development of Average Subtraction Image Reconstruction Method Based on Electrical Capacitance Volume Tomography (ECVT) to Detect Intracranial Tumors

In previous studies, ECVT has been developed for brain activity observation in patients with brain tumors. However, the resulting ECVT images cannot be easily interpreted especially in case of intracranial tumors. This research aims to develop an alternative image reconstruction method called average subtraction to easily interpret the images. ECVT conventional image reconstruction method developed earlier was implemented on the data of intracranial tumors randomly. If the results indicate a correlation, then patient data collection based on the inclusion criteria is performed. From the data collection, 10 data of patients with intracranial tumors were obtained. The dataset includes the tumor in the right hemisphere (5 objects) and left hemisphere (5 objects). Both the conventional reconstruction method and the average subtraction method were applied to the dataset. Then the resulting ECVT images from both methods were compared with CT images for tumor position. Comparative analysis result shows that 3 out of 10 images reconstructed using conventional image reconstruction method correlate with their respective CT images, while 7 out of 10 images reconstructed using the average subtraction image reconstruction method correlate with their respective CT images.
